WELCOME!

What is SCHEF?

We are a homeschool group located in Southeast Louisiana serving homeschool families in Slidell and the surrounding areas. We are dedicated to Christ and therefore to our families & one another. SCHEF is a Christian organization, the members of which are like-minded Christian home educating families dedicated to observing the Biblical commands of Deuteronomy 6:4-10, Proverbs 22:6, and Ephesians 6:4. SCHEF is not a church nor is this organization meant to replace the ministry of the local church to the home education family.

Additionally, we support one another by overseeing clubs, teaching, volunteering for Field Day, etc. SCHEF works and our kids have a great time because each family is encouraged to use their talents to share with the rest of the group. Below is a list, (though certainly not exhaustive), of things we offer to the members of our group. It's easy to see how our children truly have a well rounded education when participating in SCHEF and we as parents still have contact with the rest of the world. Some people worry homeschool groups won't have enough social interaction, however, with SCHEF you can be as active and social as your family's homeschool journey allows. Homeschooling is a full time job with peculiar challenges: in short you must make time to spend with like minded individuals. When your students participate in weekly, bi weekly, or monthly activities you get to know everyone and begin to crave spending time with your friends just as much as your children do.

FAQ

What's the difference between becoming a SCHEF member and being part of the Co-op?

You do not have to be a part of the Co-op to be a member of SCHEF.  When you pay to register your family as members of SCHEF, you are entitled to all the benefits such as graduation, prom, field day, and any other SCHEF event not specific to the Co-op.  You do have to be a member of SCHEF to be part of the Co-op so you must also register your family with the Co-op (this is a separate fee.)

Where and how often does SCHEF meet?

SCHEF meets weekly on Mondays during the school year at Redemption Church in Lacombe for student instruction by the teachers.  Assignments are given during that time to be completed throughout the week.

Does a student have to enroll for a full day of classes to be part of the SCHEF Co-op?

A student may be registered for as many or as few classes as they would like.  There is a general registration fee per family to be part of the Co-op and then a per class fee paid directly to the teacher for each class.

What does a typical Co-op day look like?

Co-op classes are ongoing from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. with a break for lunch from 11:30 a.m. - noon. A standard class is 50 minutes long and science classes are 90 minutes long.  Students do not have to take classes for the whole day.  If they have breaks between classes, a study hall room is provided for them at a charge per student/per hour/per semester.
